Matt and Christina are one of THOSE couples. The ones that aren't overly publicly affectionate, but you can sense their love just being around them. One of the couples that is SO easy to get along with, you wonder if they're really always that much fun. One of the couples that makes you laugh and makes stupid jokes with you. One of the couples that really knows what love is all about. And one of the couples that wedding photographers dream of. I loved EVERY second of getting to hang out with them. Their engagement session and their wedding both rank among my favorite shoots ever. It was truly an honor to have the chance to shoot them, and it's my privilege to call them friends.
How did you meet? Matt and I met at the hospital where we both worked and I was a nursing student at the time and had a rotation in the cardiac cath lab where he worked. We hit it off great, I gave him my number and he called me that day to go on a date since he was going out of town the next day and didn't want to wait to ask me out on a date. I said "of course" and the rest is history.
How did you know he/she was the ONE? Matt states he knew I was the one "When I left home for a few days and you were not with me I wanted to come back or have you there. I knew if I couldn't make it 3 days without you, I could never make it the rest of my life." Christina: I knew Matt was the one when I went through a pretty scary work related accident that required multiple dr's visits, medication that made me sick and so forth; he took such amazing care of me during all that that I knew I couldn't spend my life without him.
How did he propose? He proposed on Feb 25,2014. It was an unusually warm day so we decided to take a hike out in Dupont. He suggested Bridal Veil Falls and I said ok since I'd never been there before. We packed a picnic and drove out there. Had a beautiful hike and picnic out on the boulders of the falls. I turned around to get a drink and when I turned back, there he was on one knee holding the ring in his hand and asked me to marry him. What made it even more beautiful was that he used a diamond of my Oma's that she left behind when she passed about a year prior and diamonds from my other grandmother which she had passed down to me when I was a teenager.
What is your favorite thing about your spouse? There are so many amazing things about Matt, but one of my favorites is his ability to see the good in everyone and how he will go out of his way to help out anyone from his close friends to complete strangers. He has an energy about him that I have never met in anyone else before. Matt: "The fact that she not only sees the Peter Pan in me but embraces it. I will never grow up and with her I don't have to. She encourages me to dream no matter how big."
What inspired your wedding? Our wedding was inspired by our venue for sure. The Lake Lure Inn is such an amazing place and we both love anything vintage so we went with a 1920s Great Gatsby/Old Hollywood theme. It was the perfect place for it and fit our personalities and what we were wanting out of everything so perfectly.
What was your favorite part of your wedding day? My favorite part of our wedding day was when the bag piper started to play and I was walking down the aisle towards Matt. It was like we were the only ones there and was such an amazing feeling. Matt: "That the rain stopped 2 hours before the wedding and gave us the beautiful fog/clouds for amazing pictures of our awesome ceremony."
What your advice be for future brides? The advice I would give now, looking back, is to keep it simple and try not to stress out. That is definitely easier said than done, but when it comes down to it, you're there to marry your best friend. It's really only about the two of you at that point. Don't worry about anything else that day and try to take in and enjoy the process as much as you can. It is literally over in the blink of an eye.
